Chorrillos, Lima, Peru | Dream Boards at Mama Victoria Women's Shelter

Hace unos meses, un grupo de amigos, estudiantes de intercambio de Corea, y unos niños lindos tuvo un día de actividad divertido en el Hogar de la Esperanza Mama Victoria en Chorrillos.

A few months ago, a random bunch of friends, Korean exchange students, and really cute kids had a fun activity day together at Hogar de la Esperanza Mama Victoria in Chorrillos.

El albergue ha mejorado significativamente desde que mi primera visita hace cuatro años. Siempre es agradable llegar a este paisaje colorido.

The facilities have significantly improved ever since my first visit some four years ago. It's always delightful to arrive to this colorful scenery.

La directora, Nelly Villegas, es de poca altura, pero tiene el corazón más grande y fuerte que he conocido. Es una inspiración increíble para la comunidad.

The charity's director, Nelly Villegas,  is short in height but can stand toe-to-toe with just about anyone. She's one of the strongest and most giving women I've ever met and an incredible inspiration to the community, myself included.

En la imagen de la derecha es un muro que el gobierno puso cuando se apoderaron de parte de sus tierras de cultivo. Ahi pintaron las palabras "El Muro de la Vergüenza, de la Impotencia y de la Injusticia" para expresar su frustración.

In the right picture below is a wall that the government put up when they seized part of their farm land; they painted the words: El Muro de la Vergüenza, de la Impotencia y de la Injusticia, which means Wall of Shame, Impotence, and Injustice, to express their frustration.

Esta foto de abajo muestra lo fácil que es que alguien pueda entrar en el refugio, roban bienes, y amenazan a las mujeres de aquí. Nelly personalmente me preguntó durante esta visita ayuda elevar el $ 8000 necesarios para la construcción de un muro de seguridad para proteger el refugio.

This photo below illustrates how easy it is for intruders to enter the shelter, steal goods, and threaten the women here. Nelly personally asked me during this visit for help raising the $8,000 needed to construct a secure wall to protect the shelter.

Ese día, llevamos un montón de revistas para que los niños encontraran imágenes de las cosas que les gustaban, lo que les inspira, o lo que querían en el futuro. Les ayudamos a recortar las imágenes y pegarlas en hojas de papel para crear mini-"tableros de sueños" o "tableros de visualización" para ayudarles a visualizar a su futuros.

On that day, we brought tons of magazines for the children to look through and find images of things they liked, what inspired them, or what they wanted in the future. We helped them cut the images out and glue them on pieces of paper to create mini-"dream boards" or "vision boards" to help them visualize for the future.

Lo que presentaron cada uno era completamente adorable y muy entretenido.

What they each came up was absolutely adorable and very entertaining.
