Boda Pantanos de Villa, Chorrillos, Peru | Mariana & Daniel Pt.I

~En español abajo~
I first met Mariana and Daniel in their beautiful apartment near the beach in Barranco.  From their initial email to our first meeting in person, the couple struck me as incredibly sincere, simple and lovely.

Their bohemian home was adorned with keepsakes from their extensive travels around the globe (they each have four stamp-filled passports) and a make-shift Christmas tree made out of stacked books draped in lights and hand-made ornaments to boot.

When they told me that they both worked with the Ministry of Development and Social Inclusion here in Peru, I knew there was a reason behind this perfect pairing -- them with me as their photographer!

The Chilean-Peruvian couple met in London while studying for their master's degrees at University College London.

"We didn't have any classes together but were both selected to be in the Local Government working table and ended up teammates. I had actually noticed him on the first day of classes and knew he was Chilean, but he hadn't noticed me," Mariana explained while glancing over at him with a coy smile.

After that they kept on bumping into each other at the university bar and faculty activities -- they also "Whatsapp'd like mad"-- but the defining moment in the relationship came after their Christmas break...

"He had traveled to Barcelona and I had gone to the Faroe Islands for the holidays. When he landed back in London on the 4th of January at 2:00 AM, Daniel went straight from the airport to my dorm room -- we've been together ever since."

Two years later, to the day, they were wed on a gorgeous afternoon in Pantanos de Villa with 250 of their closest friends and family; half of which came from abroad. Her family from Uruguay and Argentina, his family from Chile, their international friends from high school and college days from all over the place -- I had a spectacular time getting to meet, hang out, and photograph so many awesome people; I even made some great new friendships in the process.

During the five days of festivities leading up to and including the wedding, Mariana says they had never drank so much pisco (all Peruvian) and wine (all Chilean). "We know who does what best."

Mariana and Daniel, I thank you so much for choosing and trusting me to document this moment in your lives.  Your beautiful words for one another, your shared interest in changing the world around you, your warmth and ability to make anybody and everybody feel comfortable and welcomed in your presence is unparalleled and inspiring.  I am so grateful for the pleasure of meeting you and I hope to see you two again soon in your new home in Chile!

The best of wishes for you both in your new life together as husband and wife.
With Love, B.

This wedding was full of unique details, one of my favorite being the hand-drawn invitations made especially for the two by a very talented friend.

Mariana got dressed at her home with the help of her mother and younger sister.

She didn't end up using the bouquet that she had made because she felt it was way too big and clunky for her taste, but we used it for a picture just so it wasn't a total waste.

Instead, she opted for the "toss bouquet" which was much more her style -- light and simple.

Meanwhile, a few blocks away, Daniel's family was getting ready at cozy boutique hotel. I loved how his sisters wore outfits that showed off their individual styles and personalities.

Arriving to the venue...
Llegando al local...

Mariana and Daniel were completely unconventional about many aspects of their wedding day. They chose to meet at the venue but didn't want any formal "First Look" session done; they just ran up to each other and reveled in a blissful moment before their I Dos.

I was able to peel them off each other long enough to get in a mini session before the guests arrived.

True to their rebellion form, they chose to greet their guests before the ceremony -- such a wonderful idea!  A great opportunity for friends and family to relax with the stars behind the scenes before showtime.

It also gave time for a lot of these kind of moments:

Delicious h'orderves and champagne were served to guests as they waited, mingled and passed around a surprise guestbook that Daniel's siblings made for the couple without them knowing. Such a sweet little detail.

I wish I would have thought of doing something like this at my wedding -- so fun!

There were so many ridiculously good-looking people with great fashion sense at this wedding... I was in photo heaven!

An adorable trio, these siblings were.
Un trío adorable, estos hermanos.

More ridiculously good-looking family members from Uruguay and beyond.

Their parents are an integral part of their lives and so they wanted them to be an integral part of their wedding ceremony as well. They chose to each walk down the aisle with their proud parents by their side to start things off.

They custom-tailored their ceremony (minus the legal part) to be a representation of who they are and what marriage ultimately means to them: the beautiful union of two families and the beginning of a new life together marked by this symbol of unwavering devotion for one another.

In order to do this, they asked their parents to be their wedding officiants. But before they passed the mic, they expressed their love and gratitude to the many guests who traveled far and near to share the day with them.

Their parents shared insights about their children that made everyone laugh and even shed an occasional happy tear.

And then came the best part: their vows -- an exclusive glimpse into how utterly romantic and poetic each of them are.

In between peals of laughter, they had the whole place literally bawling. Your faithful photographer included.

I'll never forget the way he looked at her.

After all the sentiment, came the legalities. It was time to make this thing official.

It's amazing I could even get any shots in focus, because behind the viewfinder, my specs were gettin' all fogged up with emotion.

There were just too many photos I loved to fit them in one blog post, so this wondrous rendezvous will have to be continued.  The second part will contain highlights from the first dance, toasts, and them partyin' like rockstars!  Stay tuned for more of these irresistible lovebirds in Part II coming soon...
