except when it comes to beauty pageants.

Here are some of my photos from this weekend at the Miss Perú 2011 pageant held in the city of Callao.

21-year-old Natalie Vertiz, Miss USA Perú, represents the Peruvian community in the US, where she was raised.  Here she is explaining what she learned from being in the pageant, which included her growing love and pride for her native country.

Miss Loreto won the title of Miss Elegance.

Miss Amazonas won Miss Bikini International

A rather sad turn-out for the final phase of the competition. Blame it on the economy? I personally think it was because people have a lot more pressing concerns than attending this beauty pageant; it wasn't even mentioned in any reputable publications.

Odilla Garcia will go to compete this November in the Miss World 2011 pageant this year in Trinidad and Tobago (yet to be confirmed)

Natalie will go on to compete in Sao Paulo, Brazil for the title of Miss Universe 2011.
